A Corpus Christi man who admitted to making fake credit cards using [credit card] receipts stolen from a San Antonio hotel has been sentenced to five years and 10 months in federal prison, federal prosecutors said Wednesday.
Steven Reese Clark, 37, also must pay $3,606 in restitution to victims of his fraud.
Clark’s scheme unraveled after a June 2011 traffic stop in Beeville, when a police officer noticed two bags of Comfort Inn & Suites receipts and found a Wal-Mart receipt for a printer.

I don’t remember seeing coverage of this breach before, but note the traffic stop aspect again. I shudder to think how much of our PII or financial info is just driving around in thieves’ cars, waiting for law enforcement to serendipitously discover it on some traffic stop.
thats a good one, the harsher the punishment the lesser the incentive for people to engage in these activities
