3rd doctor’s office targeted for laptop theft

Posted on March 26, 2012 by Dissent

Ah, so this breach was politically motivated. Tony Thomas reports:

Some area OB-GYNs say they are being harassed after speaking out against a controversial bill being considered at the state Capitol.

Dr. Richard Zane of the Atlanta Women’s Health Group said his office and two others have been broken into in the days following a trip to the Capitol.

In each case, laptops were stolen.

Read more on WSBTV.com. They don’t seem to name the third practice, but maybe I’ll find it in other coverage as more on this rash of thefts comes out.  At least one doctor thinks the purpose is to intimidate doctors.  And so far, it’s not clear that any patient information has been stolen.

If your drawing attention to yourself, don’t you THINK it would be wise to protect the assets, especially something that holds information that could potentially ruin your practice/corporation? Doors and locks only keep honest people honest. A determined individual with enough determination (and wit) can overcome most obsticles. I am not saying always go over the top and be paranoid; but a 600lb safe bolted to the ground that holds laptops and private information, and is locked up when the office is not occupied may have saved many a corporation.

If you stir up a bee’s nest you have to be ready for the potential risk/ outcome of your actions, whether it is free press or not.

I agree with you Risk anyone?

Apparently it’s just one more security cost that clinics offering abortion services have to swallow. Of course all clinics should protect medical information as best they can, but all clinics aren’t targeted equally. It’s reality

Looks like the Atlanta Women’s Health Group laptops contained only doctor information
