The auditor is as yet unnamed, but Petco Animal Supplies notified over 500 employees that laptops stolen from their auditor’s office the weekend of May 18 -20 contained their SSN and some 401(k) information. The theft occurred in San Diego.
It is not clear why it took the auditor over one month to notify them. The laptops were reportedly protected with a “strong password,” and the plan information was reportedly protected by an “encrypted password.”
