Aurora workers are ready to walk off the job today after sensitive employee and customer details were leaked following a security breach of the GPS monitoring system in employee cars.
Safety meetings will be held in 16 depots around the State this morning where 400 workers will vote on industrial action.
SmarTrak GPS tracking systems are installed in all Aurora frontline vehicles.
The GPS is installed for safety and logistical purposes.
They have been operational in Aurora vehicles for 12 months.
Communications Electrical and Plumbing Union state secretary Trevor Gauld said the leak was discovered after a man in a pub showed an Aurora worker his smartphone with details of where the man had worked for the past week and of customers.
“You could see the address and notes on the customer, like ‘aggressive customer’,” Mr Gauld said.
Poles and wire workers who take work cars home because they are on call were at risk, Mr Gauld said.
Details of workers’ addresses, when they were at home and when they left home had been accessed.
