Richard Ilgenfritz reports that Radnor Township School District officials are responding to a data breach that occurred after a staff member left a computer folder open and a middle school student obtained personal information on staff that was then shared with others.
“Approximately 2,000 current and former employees of the Radnor Township School District are impacted,” school officials wrote in a question and answer posted on the district’s website. “This includes current teachers, administrators and other staff positions. According to school officials, much of the information included data that is available through Pennsylvania’s right-to-know law and through commercial sources. The information included addresses and phone numbers for the employees. The information also included sensitive data such as social security numbers and birth dates.
The breach occurred in May or June, but school officials did not find out about it until November, and then only because a student reported it.
