About 80,000 employees of federal contractors are at risk of identity theft after a hacker broke into business research firm Deltek’s GovWin IQ system.
In an email to vendors, which Federal News Radio obtained and was confirmed by Deltek, Mike Corkery, the company’s president and CEO, said it discovered on March 13 it had suffered a cyber attack where a hacker obtained GovWin IQ usernames and passwords, and potentially the credit card information of about 25,000 of those 80,000 customers.

A copy of Deltek’s notification letter was posted to Vermont’s web site this week. The letter makes no mention of usernames and passwords being acquired, but noted that Deltek believes the attack occurred between July 3, 2013 and November 2, 2013. Although Deltek has no indication that the information has been misused, the letter states that the types of data on the server included name, billing address, telephone number, and business e-mail address, as well as credit card number and expiration date used to make purchases on GovWin IQ’s eCommerce system for reports, documents, and event registrations.
