The National Domestic Workers Alliance is notifying employees that their personal information – and/or that of their spouse or dependents – may have been accessed in an email intrusion breach. In a notification letter dated October 16, Tara Ellison, Finance and Operations Director, writes:
The types of personal information that may be contained in the email accounts include social security numbers, deposit account numbers and insurance enrollment information. If you enrolled your spouse, partner or child in any of the offered insurance plans their social security number would also be included on your insurance enrollment form.
A computer forensic investigation was unable to determine whether information was actually accessed, but employees and spouses or dependents whose personal information had been provided for insurance enrollment purposes were all offered a complimentary one-year membership of Experian’s® ProtectMyID® Elite.
Some of those notified were informed that copies of their W-9 tax forms might have been accessed. They, too, were offered the one-year coverage with Experian ProtectMyID service.
Their notification letter does not indicate when the intrusion occurred or when and how they first discovered it. Nor does it indicate the total number of people receiving notifications, although the organization claims to represent over 10,000 domestic workers.
