Parents and civil liberties groups have called for a review of neonatal procedures after learning that the permanent storage of blood samples dates back to 1994.
The samples, which can be accessed by the police in some circumstances, are taken from heel-prick tests used to screen newborns for health problems like cystic fibrosis.
