A former Monterey Park resident was sentenced Monday to 40 months in federal prison for filing bogus tax returns using names and Social Security numbers of people whose identity information had been stolen to fraudulently collect refunds.
Sang Hwoon Shin, 41, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge George H. King, who also ordered the defendant to pay restitution of more than $316,000 to the Internal Revenue Service.
