A state agency mistakenly turned over the personal information and bank-account numbers of about 60 Ohioans to a pair of vendors, including one that sent the records to be copied by a third party.
Officials of the MARCS emergency-communications system within the Department of Administrative Services didn’t notify people whose Social Security, federal tax ID, bank-account numbers and other data were turned over improperly to the vendors until Monday — after The Dispatch inquired about the matter.

The incident stems from last year, when records about the tower sites MARCS leases for its first-responder communication system were turned over to a pair of vendors, Motorola and Agile Networks.

So no one was going to tell those whose SSN were shared improperly? Was this a, “Well, we don’t see much risk of ID theft, so why worry folks and create more work for ourselves?” kind of thought process?
Kudos to the Columbus Dispatch for doing its job to bring these things to light.
