The arrest of two Wipro employees following the crackdown on an international data theft racket has sent shockwaves across Salt Lake Sector V, the IT hub of Bengal. Though many tech firms have hurriedly opted for data insurance, most of them are not sure if it is enough to secure confidentiality and help pin-point the fraudsters who may prowling their offices.
In a major breakthrough in the case, the Bidhannagar cyber crime squad on Thursday arrested Rahul Seth, the main accused, from Sector V. Investigators believe there are at least two other gang members on the run.

All along, the database of the parent company Talk Talk (of Britain) and its knowledge service provider Wipro were used illegally, say police. Every weekend, the accused used the data they had stored from Wipro to call customers of Talk Talk. They would warn the customer that their internet speed was being “compromised” due to a virus.
