A computer hacker who targeted female celebrities could face up to 5 years in prison and $250,000 in fines after pleading guilty to federal charges, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Ryan Collins, 36, of Lancaster, pleaded guilty to a federal hacking charge before U.S. Middle District Senior Judge William W. Caldwell.
According to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith, Collins admitted running a “phishing” scheme between 2012 and 2014 to obtain user names and passwords for the Apple and Google email accounts of his targets, primarily members of the entertainment industry in Los Angeles.
