WSAZ reports that Kanawha County Schools tell them their internal documents have been restored after a ransomware hack that occurred Wednesday evening. No personal information was reportedly accessed in the attack, and it appears that the school district did not pay any ransom. There’s no indication as yet as to how the attacker was able to inject the ransomware.

How do they know no personal information was accessed or exfiltrated? There is no way for them to know that unless they captured all traffic destined for the internet (including encrypted) and inspected it.
Did you read/backtrack to the original coverage – they said only one of their servers was involved and that one had no personal information on it.
