Spain on Friday turned over notorious Russian computer hacker Peter Yuryevich Levashov to FBI cyber detectives in New Haven, who have accused him of developing the Kelihos network of hundreds of thousands of infected computers and using it to stuff inboxes with spam, steal secret financial data and spew malicious programming around the world.

As I had reported previously in covering this case, Russia had tried to block his extradition to the U.S., claiming he was wanted in Russia, too. Levashov had claimed that he worked for Putin’s party, and that he feared he would be tortured if he was extradited to the U.S. In October, Spain agreed to the U.S.’s extradition request.
