Lawyers for Chart Industries, Inc. recently notified [pdf] the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office that eight of Chart Industries’ laptops were stolen on the evening of July 23 from their corporate offices in Garfield Heights, Ohio. The theft was discovered the next morning and immediately reported to the police.
Chart discovered the theft on Friday morning, July 24, 2009, and immediately reported the theft to the Garfield Heights, Ohio Police Department.
From the information provided, it seems that up to 16oo employees may have had their name, address, social security number and date of birth on the stolen laptops. Although the company indicates that the laptops were password-protected, there is no indication as to whether the data were encrypted.
