The personal data of 14,591 L.A. County patients has been exposed in a hack of an L.A. County Department of Health Services contractor’s email, officials said Tuesday.
An employee of the Nemadji Research Corporation, a contractor that identifies and verifies patient eligibility for programs that reimburse care provided by DHS, was hacked via email on March 28, exposing the hacker to records
from several of Nemadji’s clients, according to an L.A. County news release.

Nemadji,who does business as California Reimbursement Enterprises notes in their statement that:
While almost all of the information in the email account was encrypted at the time of the incident, the encryption keys or similar variations were included in the email account.
Note that the county is only one of their affected clients. Essentia Health is notifying more than 1000 people of this incident.
