On the morning of Thursday, Sept. 26, the Pine Bush School District and the Town of Crawford Police were alerted that someone had successfully hacked the posting for Crispell Middle School on a popular computer program known as Google Maps. The hacker inserted a photograph of a gun to the listing for Crispell.

Since Goggle Map entries lead the listings for a location that is searched using the Google search engine, this image is prominently displayed.

The district filed a formal request with Google requesting that Google remove the photograph.

The police have established that the photo was taken from an online site – Reddit, and is not a picture that was locally sourced.

As we continue to investigate this matter, the Town of Crawford will provide additional police coverage for Crispell Middle School on Friday.
