I didn’t find this in my routine searches, but a new entry on HHS’s breach tool alerted me to a breach at the Austin Center for Therapy and Assessment involving a stolen laptop.
According to the center’s submission to HHS, the theft occurred on July 8. I did not find any statement on the center’s web site today, but of course, it’s possible that they had one and removed it.
An August 5, 2011 item in the Austin American-Statesman reports:
Police are investigating the theft of an Austin psychology center’s laptop that contained private patient information, officials said Thursday.
The Austin Center for Therapy and Assessment, 8103 Brodie Lane, reported the theft to police July 11. The center said it notified 1,870 clients that their names, addresses, Social Security numbers and treatment information could have been compromised. No one has been charged. The center said patients may call 282-2282 with questions.
