…The hacking of the DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority data system has triggered at least three investigations and a federal civil lawsuit against the District of Columbia government, CBS News has learned. It has also sent a significant shock through Congress and its staffers.

It’s a shame if it took this breach to get Congress to wake up to the glaring need for data security. Where were all these newly shocked members and staffers when we have all been reporting worrying breaches for more than a decade?
But will anything change now? DC Health Links will undoubtedly improve their security, especially if, as reported to DataBreaches by someone with knowledge of the breach, it wasn’t a hack but a leak that was discovered by Google dorking. But what about all the other agencies and organizations?
