MacKenzie Garrity reports:
Patients of Richard Davis, MD, have reported that they have received ransom demands from a cybercriminal who threatens to release their public information if they don’t pay the demand.
Dr. Davis is the owner of The Center for Facial Restoration in Miramar, Fla. In November, he discovered that his server had been infected with ransomware. The cybercriminals claimed to have access to patient data and that it would be publicly exposed if Dr. Davis did not pay the ransom.
Read more on Becker’s Hospital Review. I would love to see the ransom demand and extortion emails to patients, if anyone has a copy to share.
As I mentioned on Twitter, I can think of two other similar cases off the top of my head — and both involved plastic surgeons. The first was a case in Lithuania, and the other involved thedarkoverlord, who after failing to get as much as they wanted from London Bridge Plastic Surgery, tried to extort several of the clinic’s celebrity patients.
