An article in VietnamNet has some findings about cybercrime in Vietnam and how work-from-home and COVID-19 have contributed to the increase in certain kinds of crime. Some of the findings reported in the article include:
- In 2021, the number of phishing cases increased by three times compared with 2020. As many as 2,739 phishing websites and 2,717 fake websites have been found.
- Viettel Cyber Security reports that the most infected malicious codes in 2021 were Necurs Botnet, Ditminer Miners, Lethic Botnet, Mirai Botnet, Android Hummer Trojan, Sality Botnet, WannaCry Ransomware and Dark Silent Android Trojan.
- Five groups of hackers that often organize APT attacks in Vietnam: Goblin Panda, Mustang Panda, Lazarus, Winnit and APT 32.
Not surprisingly, malware infections are successful because of poor user hygiene such as clicking on attached files from unknown senders, using unlicensed and cracked software, and using USB to exchange data.
