If you shopped at the Bed Bath & Beyond store on E. 61st in New York City between August 5 and September 19, you may want to check your credit card statements. On September 19, the retailer discovered that some customers’ credit card information was compromised by a cashier at that store. The notification sent to New Hampshire on November 22nd indicates that card issuers and customers have been notified, but the retailer has been unable to determine whether customers’ card information was actually misused, or in which cases it may have been misused.
The firm offered affected customers free credit monitoring services.
That’s quite scary. It’s unfortunate that they did not provide more information on how the credit card information was obtained and how it may have affected shoppers. While I haven’t shopped at that location it would be nice to know how it was obtained and efforts used to prevent this in the future.
