NDPC, Health Ministry Partner to Boost Data Protection in Healthcare

Posted on April 19, 2025 by Dissent

Voice of Nigeria reports:

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has announced a collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to establish a robust data protection framework within the healthcare sector.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by Mr. Itunu Dosekun, Head of the NDPC Media Unit.

According to Dosekun, the initiative follows a visit by the NDPC’s National Commissioner, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate.

He emphasized that the partnership highlights the vital need to protect sensitive patient data, prevent discrimination and misdiagnosis, and ensure adherence to the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.
