New Brunswick’s long-awaited patient health protection legislation was tabled Friday.
Health Minister Mike Murphy said the bill will make sure that New Brunswickers can control who sees their medical records.
“Every New Brunswicker has a medical history,” he said. “That medical history might be thin or it might be thick.
“We have to make sure that New Brunswickers feel safe because we are going ahead with the e-health file.”
The legislation was a Liberal election campaign promise in 2006.
The Liberal government is also getting ready to introduce electronic personal health records and New Brunswick ombudsman Bernard Richard has warned that when that happens protecting health information will become even more important.
