PA: Man gets 8 to 16 years for drugs, ID theft

Posted on January 14, 2010 by Dissent

John McManus, 37, of 103 Persimmon Drive, Delaware Township pled guilty to various drug and identity theft charges on January 11 at the Pike County Courthouse in Milford. He was sentenced by President Judge Joseph Kameen to 8 to 16 years in state prison. A jury had already been selected to try McManus on his identity theft charges and his trial was scheduled to begin on the day he pled guilty.

McManus first came to the attention of law enforcement when the Milford Police Department began investigating him for charges that he was using other individual’s identities to open accounts in Milford at various banks. Employees at the banks noticed discrepancies in the identification and notified the police. At the same time, McManus was also getting credit cards with stolen identities and using them in an attempt to obtain over $30,000. In addition to the charges by the Milford Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police filed charges against McManus for Identity Theft and related offenses. The investigation by the various law enforcement agencies uncovered that McManus had obtained counterfeit drivers licenses in several individuals names and had also obtained date of birth and social security information as well. After being charged with these crimes, McManus was released on $50,000 bail by a magisterial district judge.
