A medical doctor in Taichung recently pubished an article that detailed information about a male-to-female sex reassignment surgical operation performed on Taiwan entertainer Li Ching.
The doctor, who mentioned Li’s name in the article in a medical association journal, has been strongly criticized for an infringement of patient privacy.
Divulging personal health information is prevalent in medical circles in Taiwan. For example, several physicians jointly revealed Taichung Mayor Jason Hu’s medical records when Hu was running for mayor in 2005.
The last case of patient privacy violation involved the disclosure of cosmetic surgery procedures performed on Rebecca Sun, who allegedly had an extramarital affair with Kuomintang Legislator Wu Yu-sheng.
