There are fears the personal data of more than 700 cancer patients and dozens of volunteers may have been leaked following a theft at Queen Mary Hospital.
Computer equipment belonging to the Li Ka Shing Foundation Hospice Service Program was found missing around 8am yesterday.
The premises had been forcibly entered and one of the door locks was broken.
A hard disk, two password-protected desktop computers, and three computer monitors were among the items missing.
A spokesman said the hard disk in one of the password-protected desktop computers contains the English names and identity card numbers of about 700 cancer patients as well as the Chinese names, identity card numbers and telephone numbers of another 80 cancer patients.
The hard disk also stores the Chinese and English names, identity card numbers, phone numbers and addresses of about 30 to 40 volunteers.
