Tina Holsopple, 44, of Culloden, West Virginia, was sentenced yesterday by United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. to fourteen months in prison. She was also ordered to pay restitution to the Poca Valu Rite pharmacy in the amount of $146,494.91 for identity theft.
Holsopple pleaded guilty to the federal charge in May 2010, admitting that while working at an accounting firm located in Cross Lanes, West Virginia, she stole over $154,000. As an employee of the firm, Holsopple was placed in charge of an account for Poca Valu Rite pharmacy. The investigation revealed that Holsopple used check creation software to make counterfeit checks payable to herself; she then stamped the owner of the pharmacy’s name on the checks. Holsopple deposited the checks in her own account, and withdrew the money for her personal use. Holsopple’s order of restitution reflects the balance still owed to the victim.
