An East Grand Forks man charged in an identity-theft case that involved dozens of local victims is expected to plead guilty at a Dec. 7 hearing.

Lafferty, 28, faces 20 felony counts of identity theft as well as a felony theft charge. Criminal complaints accuse him of using the names and Social Security numbers of 49 people to obtain credit cards.

Authorities said investigators uncovered Lafferty’s operation in September, which led them to search his home and computer-repair business, Tech Medics in Grand Forks.
Authorities believe Lafferty got the victims’ personal information from a hard drive that he had obtained elsewhere.
