Mallory Peebles reports:
A stolen hard drive belonging to the city of Waseca is safely recovered.
The hard drive is recovered after Waseca police received a tip call about teens looking into cars. The juveniles were questioned and one voluntarily admitted to taking the hard drive from a vehicle last Monday.
It contained personal information of past and present city employees and people who do business with the city Waseca.
Waseca Police Department Captain Kris Markeson says he’s confident that the 14-year-old juveniles did not access the information because it takes special hardware to open and everything is encrypted.
Charges are pending against the juvenile.
Well, I hope the police were right and that the drive really was encrypted and not just password-protected. Sounds like a “near miss.”
