Niall O’Connor reports that a military laptop containing hundreds of 65th Battalion, Reserve Defence Forces members’ information was stolen from a senior officer’s home in Dublin earlier this week.
As of the time of this posting, it’s not clear whether the laptop contained any financial details. It’s also not clear why the officer had the data, as he was reportedly not authorized to have it. That, too, seems to be under investigation.
A spokesperson said the laptop “allegedly” contained personal details such names, ranks, military service numbers, gender and dates of birth.
So… is the officer who shouldn’t have had the data to begin with able to say what database or file he had downloaded and when, so that all this can be determined, or is this a total “Duh…?” fiasco?
