Conspirators testify in Ramsey County identity theft trial

Chao Xiong reports the follow-up to a breach previously noted on this blog:

A former state employee accused of stealing identities from a state database and other sources traded that information for methamphetamine, one of her conspirators testified Thursday.

Roxanne K. Deflorin, 50, is on trial this week in Ramsey County District Court for the thefts. Three other women have pleaded guilty in connection with thefts linked to Deflorin, which authorities have said could range between 350 and 500 stolen identities.

Assistant Ramsey County Attorney John Ristad said most of the stolen identities were taken from the Public Employees Retirement Association of Minnesota (PERA). The bulk of PERA victims are former or current employees of the Wayzata School District, Ristad said.
