Jamie Oberg reports:
The Park Hill School District sent out letters this week to 10,210 current and former district employees and students about a potential data security breach.
The district said Tuesday that they believe the breach occurred sometime between February and April.
School officials learned of the incident on April 1 after a resident alerted them that sensitive information was online. Most of that sensitive information involved Social Security numbers.

KMBC reports that the breach was due to an employee not following policies and procedures:
“That information was released from a former employee without authorization,” said Superintendent Scott Springston.
He said the former employee downloaded files onto a hard drive without authorization. When the employee connected it to a home network, the files went onto the Internet.
The district said it worked quickly with the former employee, the FBI and even Google to get the documents off the Internet. The district did not say whether the former employee will be prosecuted.
