Ryan Smith reports that an e-mail error resulted in medical information and/or billing information for 11 patients being sent to another patient:
Pella Regional Health Center operates seven clinics in three Iowa counties.
KCCI-TV uncovered a handful of local patients whose hospital bills and medical records were compromised.
Monte Goodyk contacted KCCI-TV Friday after he opened his statement and found an $800 bill. On closer inspection, the billing information of 11 Pella Regional Health Center patients was included on Goodyk’s statement.
“Well, you freak out initially, because your first thought is if I have their information, they may have my information,” said Goodyk.
In one case, the statement included a detailed list of services underneath the patient’s name.
