I think we’re running out of hashtags for how bad the Sony #databreach was (Update1)

Posted on December 4, 2014 by Dissent

It just gets more and more embarrassing for Sony. Here are just a few stories from today’s news:

It Gets Worse: The Newest Sony Data Breach Exposes Thousands Of Passwords

Sony Pictures hackers stole 47,000 social security numbers, including Sly Stallone’s

SONY PICTURES HACK SPREADS TO DELOITTE: THOUSANDS OF AUDIT FIRM’S SALARIES ARE LEAKED

Let the Congressional hearings begin.

Let the state attorneys general start a new mail list.

Let federal agencies figure out if any of them have the authority to take action against Sony over its failed infosecurity.

And none of it will make a difference. For too many people, the damage is done.

What was Sony thinking?

Update1: Well, they certainly weren’t thinking much about passwords security and the lessons they should have learned after the 2011 breach. From Sony’s Top-Secret Password Lists Have Names like Master_Password_Sheet:

In a small file titled “Bonus.rar,” hackers included a folder named “Password.” It’s exactly what it sounds like: 140 files containing thousands upon thousands of private passwords, virtually all of them stored in plaintext documents without protection of any kind.

Some seem personal in nature (“karrie’s Passwords.xls”) while others are wider in scope (“YouTube login passwords.xls”).

Yep. I’m waiting for/hoping for someone to analyze all the medical info and break it down.
