Bofta Yimam reports that a breach reported in 2014 that resulted in over 800 cases of tax refund fraud for University of Pittsburgh Medical Center employees may still be impacting employees this year:
If you work for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, you may have to wait for your tax refund because of the major security breach last year.
Federal officials said 62,000 UPMC employees had their personal information accessed by identity thieves. Some information was used to file bogus tax returns.
Employees were notified about a possible tax return delay in a memo, UPMC officials said.
After the data breach last year, the IRS put protections in place for UPMC employees to flag certain changes in their filing.
