More than 13,000 email addresses have been hacked through Edinburgh City Council’s computer system. Aside from email addresses, no other personal information was accessed or stolen during the assault.
The local authority said in an email to people who have an online account with the council that the attacker invaded the security of one of its web service providers that was based in a UK data centre. Users may encounter an increase in spam or phishing emails as a result.
