Brad Dicken reports:
The personal and medical information on nearly 300 patients at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center was improperly accessed by a now-fired hospital employee.
Hospital spokeswoman Alicia Reale said Thursday that an internal investigation was launched May 13 after it was discovered that an employee had accessed the hospital’s electronic medical record system outside the worker’s normal duties.
“We have determined that certain protected health information of 297 UH ElyriaMedicalCenter patients was inappropriately accessed by the former employee,” Reale wrote in a response to questions about the breach. “The information that may have been accessed for the impacted patients includes names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, dates of service and diagnostic and treatment information.”
