The Asahi Shimbun has an editorial about the Japan Pension Service leak reported previously on this blog. The editorial begins:
Two reports have been released about the leak of personal data concerning 1.25 million or so people from the Japan Pension Service’s computer system due to a security breach caused by e-mails containing computer viruses.
One is a report on the agency’s internal investigation into the massive leak, while the other has been drawn up by an independent committee appointed by the welfare ministry to look into the security breach.
The facts disclosed by the reports about how such a vast amount of personal data was compromised clearly indicate that the agency failed to take even basic measures to protect the security of these sensitive pieces of information.
