UK: Merseyside PC to face disciplinary probe over snooping allegations

Posted on November 24, 2015 by Dissent

Joe Thomas reports:

A Merseyside police officer is facing a disciplinary probe over allegations she used force computers inappropriately and failed to tell bosses of her links to someone with a criminal conviction.

PC Paula Humphreys will appear before by a misconduct panel next week over the accusations.

The hearing, scheduled to begin on November 30, will be the third hearing held in public by the force since a change in the law earlier this year.

PC Humphreys is accused of three counts of breaching professional standards – viewing information about individuals, researching “notifiable associations” and reporting “notifiable associations”.

It is claimed between 2011 and 2013 she used police computer systems to “research individuals” without gaining permission, doing so without telling her bosses and for no “legitimate policing purpose”.

Update of Dec. 1: More details about the officer’s conduct have emerged as her defense counsel argues that she tried to do the right thing, but might have done it in the wrong way. This case was first noted on this site in June.
