Corner Bakery Cafe to notify employees of possible breach

Posted on December 18, 2015 by Dissent

Erring (if they are erring) on the side of caution, Corner Bakery Cafe will be sending out notifications to employees whose payroll information may, or may not, be in the possession of a former employee:

On November 10, 2015, we received a call from someone who alleged that an ex-employee of Corner Bakery possessed a file containing personal information of other company employees and expressed concern that the ex-employee may use that information for purposes of identity theft.

The company has taken steps to try and determine whether there is any validity to the statements made during the call. This includes notifying and cooperating with both local and federal law enforcement. To date, we have been unable to confirm the allegations and are aware of no evidence that your information has been or will be used for fraudulent purposes.

We do not know whether the ex-employee possesses any of your information; however, while employed by the company, the ex-employee had access to company payroll information that included the names, addresses, dates of birth and social security numbers of company employees.

The firm also offered its employees monitoring and credit restoration services with AllClear ID.

It’s nice to see a company try to be proactive in notifying and protecting its employees.

You can read the full notification on the web site of the California Attorney General.
