Jasmina Alston reports that a second student has now been arrested in connection with the theft – and creation of a searchable database of – 40,000 Jacksonville State University student and faculty data.
According to the university, suspects obtained the data by using log in information for a management database used by an institutional office.
This is still under investigation.

It allowed anyone to access students’ photographs, addresses, birth dates, phone numbers, student ID numbers, fraternity and sorority affiliation and other information. Access to addresses was subsequently removed by the individual associated with the Twitter account that announced the breach.
It’s not clear whether this second suspect is also a JSU student and whether or not s/he was also involved in the creation of the searchable database.
Update: The second student was identified as Kurt Nickolas Nilsson, 21. He has reportedly been charged with hindering prosecution in the first degree, a Class C felony.
