Guccifer, who has been spending time in a Romanian jail after his conviction there for hacking, will be extradited to the U.S., according to Reuters.
Guccifer, whose real name is Marcel Lazăr Lehel, is best known here for hacking the email accounts of influential Americans, releasing former President George W. Bush’s paintings, and exposing an alleged affair of former Secretary of State Colin Powell. He was indicted in the U.S. in June, 2014, but had been sentenced a week earlier to four years in Romanian prison.
Romania’s top court has approved a request by U.S. authorities to extradite a convicted hacker known as Guccifer, a source within Romania’s DIICOT anti-organized crime and terrorism unit told Reuters on Friday.
“The court approved an 18-month temporary extradition to America for the hacker. This follows a request made by U.S. authorities,” the source said.
