The Japanese government’s cybersecurity center has warned that the email addresses and passwords of thousands of ministry employees have been leaked and are being sold on the Internet.
The National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity issued the warning to all ministries on Tuesday. It said a massive amount of personal data has been posted on black market websites known as “dark sites.”
The information security firm KELA, based in Israel, found that the data included the email addresses of about 2,100 employees of the foreign, economy, internal affairs, transport and other ministries. The data also included their passwords for membership websites.
