The city paid $10,000 in bitcoin last week to cyber extortionists who infiltrated the school district’s computer systems over the April school break, according to city officials, affecting every school in the district.
Mayor Dean J. Mazzarella called those who carried out the cyberattack “smart” and said they knew what they were doing when they gained control of the school district’s computer network.

While the school district waits for the attackers to unlock its system, staff was still using Gmail accounts to communicate Thursday night and a reporter was directed to email the superintendent through her Gmail account.
So the data haven’t been unlocked as yet. Let’s see if the criminals keep their word….
