Officials with the Honeoye Falls-Lima school district have acknowledged an illegal intrusion into a computer system that stores students’ grades and other personal information.
A spokesperson for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said that the breach began on August 1 when “an unknown suspect was able to hack the Superintendent’s account.”
It is unknown how much data was exposed, if any, but the MCSO spokesperson said the school’s network was secured immediately after the breach was discovered.
The incident is still under investigation.

The superintendent of the Honeoye Falls-Lima School Central District says the mystery has been solved regarding a breach to the district’s computer system.
“We believe the issue is contained,” said Gene Mancuso. “In other words, we believe we know when it started and that it’s over.”
He told reporters Tuesday afternoon that it was students who hacked the school’s computer system using his personal information.
