Electronic databases that contain personal information about some Manitoba students have been temporarily shut down following a security breach.
The Maplewood system is run by an Ontario company and is used by 14 school divisions in Manitoba.
There’s no evidence any data or personal information was compromised but some parents still have questions.
Read more on CTV. There doesn’t seem t be any statement in the report about the nature of the breach. Was this a ransomware attack or something else? From earlier coverage, it sounded like Edsembli may have been hit with ransomware, but it was some kind of intrusion.
Update Mar. 3, 10:00 am. This breach also impacts Huron-Perth schools:
Parents in Huron and Perth counties attempting to access their children’s electronic report cards are being being met with a blank screen.
A cybersecurity incident prompted the company that manages the student and parent information portals for over 20,000 students at both the Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) and Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board to shut down access on Friday.
