National College of Ireland hit by ransomware attack

The National College of Ireland disclosed a cyberattack on April 3.  Here is their most recent update:

6th April Update: Please note that all classes, assessments and induction sessions planned from today Tuesday 6th until this Thursday 8th April inclusive have been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date. The college will issue a further update on Thursday afternoon in relation to classes and other events for Friday and beyond.


National College of Ireland’s IT systems were the victim of a ransomware attack on Saturday, 3rd April. This has resulted in the college suspending access to all NCI IT systems. NCI’s IT team and external service providers are currently working to restore services as soon as possible.

Students with an assignment due over the coming days, please be assured that all faculty have been notified of the disruption and no late penalties will be applied while the outage remains in place.

NCI is following all protocols regarding notifications to the Data Protection Commissioner, Gardaí and other relevant authorities.

Due to the circumstances our campus building is currently closed to all students and staff.

We apologise to all users for any inconvenience this may cause and reassure you we are working to restore services. At present we do not have a clear time frame for the full resumption of IT services.

We will post regular updates as soon as they become available.
