Martin County tax collector still silent amid cyberattack, message to them posted on dark web

CBS in Florida reported this on October 29:

CBS12 News is still waiting to hear back from the Martin County Tax Collector about a cyberattack.

CBS12 News has been reaching out for more than a week, but the only time it’s been addressed is on a Facebook post that said in part “steps are being taken to address the problem.”

Assistant County Administrator George Stokus says county leaders haven’t heard much from the Tax Collectors office since the early hours of Oct. 17, when they were notified of a network security threat.

As to who is behind the attack, well, a notice on BlackByte’s dark web site today gives us some clue.

The message reads:

Hello “Martin country TAX” we are decided to provide you a free decryption so you can work further. And open your office again. The fact is that we created few time ticked on your website to warn you about the vulnerability you has. And we didn’t get any message from you, you just closed our ticket without a reason. We are asking your IT team to write us. To our mail. So we can help you get your system back to work again.
