French maternity hospital hit by ransomware attack by Vice Society; attackers claim to have 150 GB of files

Posted on October 19, 2022 by Dissent

Le Journal du Dimanche reports that a private maternity hospital in France, Hôpital Pierre Rouquès – Les Bluets was the victim of a cyberattack by Vice Society on October 9.

A notice on the hospital’s home page alerts people to the attack and that their email system does not work.  [Note: there is also a linked FAQ.]

BMFTV reports that continuity of care has been ensured:

“Most medical records remain accessible to our teams,” according to management. It is also still possible to make an appointment within the hospital through the Doctolib platform, but some consultations are suspended.

In response to email queries by DataBreaches, a spokesperson for Vice Society confirmed that yes, they knew they were attacking a maternity hospital. When asked whether they had locked all the hospital’s files and backups, the spokesperson replied that they think that they locked everything (although the hospital claims that most medical records remain accessible).

The spokesperson added that they downloaded more than 150 GB of files from the hospital’s network.

“If they will pay we can help to restore their network for [in] 1 day (maybe less). We will give them little more time to think about it,” the spokesperson wrote.

Update: Shortly after responding to this site’s inquiries, Vice Society added the hospital to their leak site. Consistent with what they told me about giving them more time, they did not leak any data or proof, but started a countdown clock that gives the hospital four more days.
